One of my best friends Jessica reached out to me about doing a session for her little girl Lily. What some of you may not know is that Lily was born premature. To be exact she was born at 7 months gestation and stayed in the NICU for 3 months. I remember visiting Jessica at her home while Lily was in the NICU and she shared pictures with me and was so happy that Lily was doing so well. Lily was gaining weight and eating really good, but I know deep down how scared my friend was. This momma is one of the strongest people I know and I have personally seen her walk through something so scary and yet she was so positive the whole time!

Now that you know the background of this story you will have a much greater appreciation of this tradition. This birthday celebration commemorates when the three year Mary was dedicated to the service of God. The Virgin Mary then becomes the Mother of Jesus Christ. In celebration the child gets dressed in fancy clothes and is given a blessing by a priest.

To Jessica and Vani this tradition has meant so much because they get to celebrate another milestone with Lily. Due to Lily being born premature they have been beyond grateful to spend birthdays with her and to have the ability to watch her grow into her personality through the years.

To moms of premature babies or babies with birth defects or anything of the sort I am so proud of you and you deserve the world! I hope you all know how strong you are.
